On 16th January 2023, 10 founding members of the Malaysia Jobs Coalition met up in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the strategic direction and priorities for the year.
Among the key points raised were the underemployment crisis affecting 2.4 million Malaysians is not receiving the necessary attention from the media and policymakers. Underemployment tend to affect women and young people more than others. Government policy such as JaminKerja has tended to be short-term in nature and may not address the root causes such as skills mismatch. The members agreed on the complexity of jobs and the labour markets. As such, MJC has agreed to identify and clarify the problem further and to promote collaboration between members. The coalition will also be meeting and engaging various stakeholders regarding the issue. The founding members are as follows:
